Major changes have occurred in the last few years in the methods of cutting and manufacturing outerwear. Light clothing companies are now manufacturing these heavy garments because of the development of fusible interlinings and new manufacturing techniques which have resulted in the deskilling of traditional tailoring methods. Outerwear has consquently assumed much greater importance in light clothing courses and this book - the first of its kind - has been written to reflect these industrial changes. It offers a course of practical and theoretical study which is related to specific garment types and fabrics. An essential manual for students at every level. Suitable for use in CGLI, BTEC and degree courses, this uniquely comprehensive work is certain to become a standard textbook on its subject.

One of the best books you can get, but not sure I would recommend this to someone picking up pattern drafting for the first time on their own. I used this book on a course at Morley College, London and it has so much detail (every style is covered!) I have referred to it many times after attending the course. In the past, I tried to learn pattern drafting on my own from books- DO not try and do this if you've not got any experience except for commericial patterns. It's hard to learn from a book in my opinion and you're better off getting someone to teach you. It's the best investment I ever made going on the course and I have then used this book to reinforce my knowledge and practice other styles!

Very straight forward and informative with clear and understandable illustrations. I am glad I bought the book.

Very technical, but I am getting the hang of it and am now enjoying creating my very own pattern blocks. These blocks will help me produce patterns. The book also describes sewing techniques and lots more.I would recommend this book.

This is a really good book for anyone who wants to make clothes that fit. Many clothing shops use 'blocks' that just don't suit my shape although there's nothing abnormal about me and I have acceptable proportions! The instructions and diagrams are clear and easy to follow, but it does help if you have previous dress-making experience and are confident with measuring and drawing. I particularly liked the detailed information on the many ways to deal with removing fullness for shaping a garment.

This is a good book, I had one years ago, in uni, it's great for creating your own pattern blocks and patterns ect. Clear understandable instructions, a good must have book. The book is slightly larger from what I remember, but is flexible, and not too heavy - for those whom are studying.

very useful and detailed. I bought it for my mother and she is a visual learner. This books provides illustrations to back up its simple instructions to make it almost fool-proof to comprehend. However, mother states that it needs more designs.Yes, I would recommend this to people.
